Established in April 2022, Handaruan Insitute is a nonprofit institute consisting of individuals with respective extensive experience on research, academic, and nonprofit works. Handaruan Institute is legally registered in Indonesia as Yayasan Lembaga Penelitian Handaruan based in Kota Surabaya.
A group of dedicated researchers, lecturers, and professionals who have come together to create an organization that is committed to making a positive impact on society through alternative education.

Adiasri Putri Purbantina
Director
Adiasri is a scholar of International Studies with a Ph.D and a Master’s Degree in International Studies from the Graduate School of Asia Pacific Studies, Waseda University, Japan, a Master’s Degree in Japanese Area Studies from Universitas Indonesia, and a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations from Universitas Airlangga, Indonesia. She is an Assistant Professor of the International Relations department of UPN Veteran Jawa Timur and an adjunct lecturer for the Master program of the International Relations department of Universitas Airlangga. Her research interest is on international political economy, comparative politics, Asia-Pacific area studies, global production network, industrial catch-up, national innovation system, creative industry, and inclusive pedagogy.
Natasia Rumondang
Program Coordinator (Training)
Natasia is a graduate of Waseda University’s Graduate School of Asia Pacific Studies with a Master’s Degree in International Relations as well as of Universitas Indonesia with a Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities. She is professionally affiliated with A Data Pro and the International Relations department of UPN Veteran Jawa Timur as an adjunct lecturer. Her research interest is Japan-ASEAN relations, historical analysis of international relations, content and language integrated learning, and data analysis for social science research.
Ade Kusuma
Program Coordinator (Research)
Ade is a communication lecturer and researcher with focus on film, media and gender, popular culture, and public relations. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Science from Universitas Pembangunan Nasional (UPN) Veteran Jawa Timur and a Master’s Degree in Media and Communication Studies from Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya, Jawa Timur. She teaches for the Communication department of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jawa Timur, Indonesia.
Renitha Dwi Hapsari
Administrative Manager
Renitha is an International Relations lecturer and researcher professionally associated with the International Relations department of UPN Veteran Jawa Timur. She pursued her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Universitas Airlangga, Indonesia, both in International Relations. Her research interest covers ethnic alliance and secession movement, counterterrorism, aid diplomacy, health diplomacy, as well as international politics and security.
Mona Sihombing
Advisor
Mona is a communication specialist with professional experience including as Information and Communication Director of Aliansi Masyarakat Adat Nusantara (Indigenous Peoples’ Alliance of the Archipelago)’s national chapter and the Communication Programme Coordinator of Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact. She graduated from Universitas Indonesia with a Bachelor’s Degree of Social Science in Communication Studies as well as from The University of Melbourne, Australia with a Master’s Degree in Global Media Communication.
Windri Saifuddin
Public Relations
Windri is a communication lecturer and researcher at the UPN Veteran Jawa Timur with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Science from the same university and a Master’s Degree in Media and Communication Studies from Universitas Airlangga. He is also a communication practitioner with extensive experience in the field. His research focus is on mass media management, media localization, commodification, public relations, and audience reception.
Lidia Naibaho
Research Team
Lidia has a remarkable experience in sustainable agricultural community empowerment and promotion, especially in North Sumatera, having been working with Petrasa Foundation since 2008 until 2019 with the latest managerial position as a program director. She was also a member of the 2017-2020 Board of Indonesia Organic Alliance. She is currently sitting as the supervisory board of Petrasa Foundation while finishing her final thesis for the MSc Programme on Sustainable International Agriculture of the University of Goettingen, Germany. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Socio-economic of Agriculture from Universitas Sriwijaya, Indonesia and attended Asian Rural Institute’s Rural Leaders Training Course for seven months in 2011 in Japan.
